Derek Klena

 

Derek Klena (born October 3, 1991) is an American actor and singer. He participated at “America’s Most Talented Kid” in 2003 and auditioned for “American Idol” in 2010. In the video “Big Guns” of 2006, he had a voice role. He has appeared on Broadway in Wicked and The Bridges of Madison County. For his role as Birdlace in Off-Broadway’s Dogfight, he was nominated for the 2012 Clive Barnes Award. He also appeared in the 2012 Off-Broadway revival of the musical version of Stephen King’s Carrie.

Derek was included in the 2012 Theatre Finalists for the Clive Barnes Awards*, the finalists included Joaquina Kalukango, Rob McClure, Stephen Tyrone Williams. (Winner Rob McClure for Chaplin), but what a great achievement. Derek Klena may well be someone to watch out for, could he be best new thing on the Broadway!.

* The Clive Barnes Foundation and awards are named for dance and theatre critic Clive Barnes, who died in 2008.

2004 (Play)  BBP production of The Wizard of Oz  Lauren Klena, Dillon Klena, Kylie Tyndall, Keaton Tyndall, Ambrosia Kelley, Darcy Rose Byrnes, Jasmine Jessica Anthony, Rachel Rogers, & Jillian Henry were also in the play.

2004 (Play)  HPA’s production of The Secret Garden. Lauren Klena, along with Kylie Tyndall & Keaton Tyndall, were also in the show.

2005 “ (Play)  The Sound of Music  Rolf. Darcy Rose Byrnes, Rachel Rogers, Jasmine Jessica Anthony, Kendall Hancock, Andrew H. Rogers, Kylie Tyndall & Keaton Tyndall, were also in the play. Sean Moran directed the play

2005– (Play)  Beauty & the Beast. Sister Lauren Klena, along with Kylie Tyndall & Keaton Tyndall were also in the show.

2012 (June 2012  August 2012) Originated the role of Eddie Birdlace in the stage adaption of Dogfight.

2012 (January 2012  April 2012) Played Tommy Ross in the Off-Broadway revival of Carrie: The Musical.

2013 (May 28th, 2013  ) Making his Broadway debut as Fiyero in the hit musical Wicked

2014 (Feb 24, 2015  Open) Broadway Bridges of Madison County  also starring Kelli O’Hara and Steven Pasquale
